Grab Your Blender, and you’re ready for some sweet drinks!
One of the major no-no’s when being pregnant is drinking alcoholic beverages. The health implications associated with alcohol can be detrimental to a growing fetus. In fact, alcohol that enters the bloodstream can pass into the baby’s blood and directly affect the growth of cells. So, how do you replace Friday happy hours and Saturday nights out with the girls? Fear not, there are plenty of tasty cocktail recipes that are alcohol-free, and can pleasantly accompany any meal, party, or gathering you may have.
Non-Alcoholic Champagne
Everyone’s favorite celebratory, bottle-popping drink takes on a new bubbly twist without the alcohol. This is perfect for any New Years party, special occasion, or just a night in with the girls celebrating an accomplishment. The recipe is simple, and can be whipped up in a few minutes:
2/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
1 cup grapefruit juice
1/2 cup orange juice
3 tablespoons grenadine syrup
28 ounces chilled ginger ale (about 2 1/3 soda cans)
After combining sugar and water in a saucepan, bring the mixture to a boil for 10 minutes, and then add the grapefruit and orange juice. Keep it cool, and eventually add the grenadine and ginger ale once it is completely chilled.
Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri
Quintessential for a hot, summer day, this frozen strawberry delicacy will surely quench your thirst, while also satisfying your sweet tooth. Who doesn’t love a refreshing strawberry slushie? And best of all, it only requires four simple ingredients.
1 ounce fresh lime juice
3 ounces fresh strawberries or frozen strawberries in syrup
1 teaspoon sugar
Cracked ice
The only thing needed in addition is a blender. Throw all the ingredients together, and you have yourself a fabulous drink, and you won’t even notice there is no alcohol.
White Sangria
Are you thinking of having a party with some of your closest friends? Maybe a nice dinner with some of your neighbors? You’ll enjoy this favorite alcohol free! You can even add an assortment of your favorite fruits. Just substitute white grape juice for wine, and you won’t notice the difference.
4 cups white grape juice
1 cup pink grapefruit juice
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 bottle club soda (750 milliliters)
Pink grapefruit slices (or any other fruit you may like)
In a large pitcher, combine all your fruit juices, and refrigerate until you are ready to serve. Just before, add club soda and fruit, and you are set. Fortunately, this recipe can serve up to 12 people, so it’s perfect for a small party or dinner.
