4 Tips for Finding Cute Maternity Clothes Without Breaking the Bank

Bigger is NOT Better

With your midsection growing, it’s normal to feel uncomfortable, especially in the realm of what to wear. You may immediately want to splurge for the shirt or dress two sizes bigger than your regular size to cover your belly. However, big and baggy clothes may make you look larger than you intended. Embrace your pregnant body, and show the world you’re a soon-to-be mommy by wearing soft, form-fitting tees and dresses.

Take an Adventure Through Your Closet

As daunting as shuffling through tons of your clothes may be, it might benefit your pregnancy wardrobe. As you’re perusing through, be sure to put aside the following:

  • Have a top that you’ve always wanted to wear, but maybe found a bit long for your liking? You’re in luck! With your growing belly, the length of the shirt will be perfect to accommodate for your new temporary figure.
  • Everyone loves a little stretch in their clothes. Pull out those items containing spandex and lycra – they’ll stretch to compensate for your new baby body.
  • Who doesn’t love yoga pants? Any bottoms with a stretchy waistband can bode well for the baby bump. This includes skirts, yoga pants, and leggings.
  • Any type of cover up will probably be a good addition too: cardigans, jackets, blazers, vests, etc.

With all clothes, try them on first and see how you feel. Some might be best for first and second trimesters, but you may find new clothes may be needed for the third trimester look.

Jeans Jeans Jeans!

Splurging on maternity jeans is totally okay during this time. Jeans are a finicky item, especially in getting the right fit. They may feel great initially, but then sag down in the front shortly after. This might be the one “expensive” purchase you can make to revamp your wardrobe. Fabulous maternity jeans will make you look and feel fabulous. So, don’t feel guilty if this is the one item you spend a little more on.

Mix it Up (but also stay the same)

Instead of breaking the bank and spending hundreds of dollars on multiple maternity tops, find a few, plain-colored tops that have potential to go with different articles of clothing. Utilize your cardigans, blazers, jackets, and vests to amp up your style. You can even add a scarf or necklace to change the look. With a few maternity tops, and a variety of clothing to layer overtop, you will be set (without spending that unnecessary money).

Embrace the baby bump body. Show the world you’re a proud soon-to-be mother by adding pizzazz to your wardrobe, while also utilizing your pre-existing clothing items. Your bank account will thank you.
