In a recent post, we discussed how to exercise during pregnancy, and now we’ll discuss the benefits of exercising during pregnancy. Many pregnant women testify about the benefits they experienced from exercising. When done correctly and with permission from a doctor, it is an essential supplement to your wellness routine.

Musculoskeletal Benefits

Exercising during pregnancy has proven musculoskeletal benefits. Musculoskeletal refers to the body’s bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Working out and exercising during pregnancy helps promote strength within the body’s musculoskeletal system, resulting in many benefits. These benefits include:

  • Reduced Backaches
  • Improved Posture
  • Increase in Muscle tone, strength, and endurance
  • Reduces excess weight gain

Emotional Benefits

During exercise, endorphins release into the brain. Endorphins are naturally occurring hormones that boost one’s mood. These endorphins help pregnant women in the following ways:

  • Increasing Energy
  • Promoting Better Sleep
  • Improving Mood

Other Benefits

The above benefits have been proven and are excellent reasons to begin your workout. However, there have been some possible benefits that may also be linked to exercise. These have not been 100% confirmed, but they are believed to be connected by some doctors. They include:

  • Decreased Risk of Gestational Diabetes
  • Shortened/Easier Labor
  • Reduced Risk of C-Section

The benefits that come with working out while pregnant are extraordinary. Regular exercise is a must if your doctor approves you to work out. Be sure to remain hydrated and listen to your body; don’t be ashamed to take breaks when you need to. Your number one goal is to protect you and your baby, so don’t push yourself so far as to put yourself in danger. Be smart, listen to your body, and you’ll find that exercise will be extremely beneficial.
