When going through your pregnancy, you may find it hard to find ways to stay active. Sitting still for extended periods of time might be bad for both your health and the health of the baby’s, but you may question what can be too much activity. Staying active does not have to m
ean going to the gym daily, lifting weights, and hitting the cardio machines. There are many ways one can try to stay active one’s pregnancy. Here are examples of ways to achieve that:
Walk to your Destination.
Walking is a great way to keep yourself active without pushing your limits. If you live in a place where walking is safe and accessible, taking a walk to wherever you are going can be an excellent way to incorporate some exercise into your routine.
Take Breaks Throughout the Day.
A great way to keep yourself active is to remind yourself to take breaks to walk around and stretch your legs. Whether it’s a lazy day at home or a day in the office, it is a good idea to take breaks to take a brisk walk around the block, around the office, or even taking a lap around your house. Just taking a few minutes to get up and stretch out is a way to incorporate small amounts of activity throughout the day without overexerting yourself.
Take the Stairs
Just like taking small breaks for a quick walk, choosing to take the stairs instead of the elevator, if possible, is a great way to get in a little extra activity without taking any time out of the day for it. If you are only going up one or maybe two flights of stairs, you can use this opportunity. If you are going up more than a few floors, try walking up a few and taking the rest up or getting off a little bit early and walking the rest of the floors.
Small Amounts of exercise
It is never too late to start exercising. Just because you didn’t exercise before pregnancy does not mean you cannot not. A good way to get yourself into exercising is starting off in small increments of time and ability. Starting off with an easy 10–15-minute exercise a few days a week until you start to find yourself getting comfortable you decide to go for longer or find ways to create a little more of a challenge for yourself.
Yoga
Another way to implement exercise into your daily routine is yoga. Whether you are pregnant or not, Yoga is great for the mind, body, and soul. It helps you relax and find your balance while learning to control your breathing. This is a great thing to practice for labor. Yoga also strengthens your body and muscles. While some moves and poses might not be good for pregnancy, finding yoga classes or tutorials specifically for pregnancy might be beneficial.
Swimming or Water Aerobics
One other activity that is great for getting active during your pregnancy is trying swimming or water aerobics. Getting into the water can take great amounts of pressure off of your body, which can be soothing and relaxing. Water sports have very little chance of injury and exercising in a pool is beneficial because muscles are toned and strengthened by water resistance.
Using these activities can really help you staying active and on your feet during your pregnancy. Whether its taking a walk around the block, or taking a swim for an aerobics class, there are a lot of options for whatever your ability levels are.
