Overheating can cause complications in your pregnancy. If you’re looking for tips on how to stay cool, check out our previous blog post here: http://pregnancyadoptionoptions.com/tips-for-a-comfortable-summer-pregnancy/
- Sunscreen
Your skin is more prone to sunburn when you’re pregnant. When you’re experiencing hormonal changes, your skin becomes more sensitive. Applying sunscreen at least every 2 hours can decrease the chances of getting burnt. We recommend using a minimum of SPF 30, as it provides a shield of safety from the powerful UV sun rays at the beach.
- Water and snacks
Drinking water is vital for a healthy pregnancy. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, laying out in the sun makes you dehydrate quicker, which can cause premature labor. To avoid this, keep a cooler of water bottles nearby. Packing snacks for energy and nutrients throughout the day is also great. Make sure your food is not sitting out in the sun and is regulated at a safe temperature.
Pro-tip: Ice cream on the beach is never a bad idea and a delicious way to stay cool!
- The ocean
Swimming in the ocean is beneficial during pregnancy, not only is it a great form of exercise, but it also prevents you from overheating. Salt water has many benefits for your skin too! Even a light walk along the shoreline is an activity you can enjoy to cool off.
- Managing your comfort levels
Staying comfortable on the beach can look different for everyone. We recommend making a list of anything you’d need ahead of time before your trip. Here are some suggestions to maximize your comfort levels under the sun:
- Bring a reclining beach chair
- Wear a maternity bathing suit
- Sit under a beach tent
- Read a book to keep your mind busy
- Meditate and practice mindfulness
- Capture the moment by taking pictures
- Location
Pick the best spot on the sand for you! Think about what you need in your location to feel at ease. We suggest an area that’s shaded and by the closest bathrooms. You can move your beach chair to the shoreline as a fun way to get into the water if you don’t want to swim.
You can still enjoy the beach even if you’re pregnant. Taking precautions leads to a healthy and happy trip!
