You have probably spent the last several months decorating the nursery and buying the last few things you need before the baby arrives. Now that your due date is right around the corner, you are in the process of packing your hospital bag for you, the baby and your partner. Here is a list of essentials for everyone!

Your Hospital Bag

  • Driver’s License or Photo ID
  • Insurance info
  • Hospital forms
  • Birth plan (if you have one)
  • Eyeglasses (if you need them)
  • Cell phone and charger
  • 2 or 3 pairs of warm, nonskid socks
  • A warm robe or sweater you don’t mind sacrificing to the cause
  • Lip balm (hospitals are very dry)
  • Headband or ponytail holder
  • Snacks
  • Change for the vending machines
  • 2 maternity bras
  • Travel size toiletries and personal items: hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, contact lens case and solution
  • Comfortable going-home clothes
  • Comfortable flat shoes

Baby Hospital Bag:

  • Approved Car seat
  • Warm blankets
  • Several outfits to take the baby home in (pack a couple different sizes)
  • Depending on the time of year pack seasonally appropriate clothes

Your Partners Bag:

  • Cell phone and charger
  • 1 or 2 changes of clothes
  • Travel size toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, shampoo, contact lens case and solution
  • Snacks
  • Entertainment: books, tablet
  • Camera or video camera and charger don’t forget extra memory cards, batteries

 

Keep in mind the length of time you will be in the hospital. Typically, moms delivering vaginally will stay in the hospital for 24 to 48 hours. For moms delivering via c-section their stay will be closer to 3 or 4 days.
